The Institute of Ocean Research, Peking University (PKU) is a new institute established in 2013, which is the solely independent, college-level scientific research institute of PKU. Our principal missions are to construct marine science discipline at PKU, conduct world first-class and comprehensive marine research, and coordinate external collaborations in ocean industry and other related fields. Here we cordially invite domestic and foreign talents in oceanography disciplines including law, environment, climate, new energy, medicine, biology, engineering equipment, and other related research fields to apply several tenure-track positions. The positions will remain open until filled in.

All positions are research-oriented, tenure-track positions at the assistant or associate professor levels under the “One Thousand Scientists Program” of the Chinese government and “Excellent Young Scientists Program” of Peking University. Candidates already in tenure-track positions in other universities are also strongly encouraged to apply. For exceptional cases, a more senior starting position may be considered.

Institute of Ocean Research, Peking University offers comprehensive academic programs for undergraduates, Master’s students, and Ph.D. students ( There are currently 41 faculty members with diverse research interests, including oceanic engineering, oceanic humanities and social science, and oceanic strategy etc.


  • A Ph.D. degree in main research disciplines
  • At least two years of postdoctoral research experience


  • Start-up funds up to RMB 1-3 million for the “One Thousand Young Scientists Program” of the Chinese government or the "Excellent Young Scientists Program” of Peking University.
  • Base annual salary is competitive. Annual salary is about RMB 0.2-0.4 million depending on qualifications.
  • One-time subsidy for renting a 2-bedroom university apartment at a low rate. Better housing support is likely in the near future.
