I.Faculty Research Assistant

Department Description:
The Oregon State University Cooperative Institute for Marine Resources Studies (CIMRS) at the Hatfield Marine Science Center (HMSC) in Newport, Oregon, invites applications for a full-time Faculty Research Assistant position, working collaboratively with the NOAA Earth-Ocean Interactions Program.

 

Duties:

The successful applicant will be responsible for the day to day operation of the helium isotope laboratory at HMSC.  This involves performing mass spectrometer analyses of seawater and geothermal samples, organizing data on computers, maintaining laboratory equipment including diagnosing problems and performing minor repairs, maintaining stocks of supplies for laboratory and seagoing work, and contributing to publication of results.

 

A bachelor’s degree in natural science is required.  Applicant must be willing to spend 1-2 months at sea each year.  Knowledge of high vacuum systems and electronics is highly desirable.

II.TENURE-TRACK FACULTY POSITION IN SEDIMENTOLOGY

Position Summary:
The Department of Geological Sciences at the University of Manitoba invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning as early as January 1, 2017 in the general area of clastic sedimentology. III.Theoretical/modeling postdoc in physical oceanography - Program in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences

Department Description:

The AOS ocean biogeochemistry/physics group seeks outstanding postdoctoral scholars to participate in studies aimed at understanding the global ocean heat, carbon, and biogeochemistry cycles and their association with ocean circulation and the large-scale climate system. 

 

Requirements

 We encourage candidates interested in addressing fundamental research questions relevant to physical and biogeochemical aspects of ocean and climate dynamics. Individuals will join a vigorous interdisciplinary research group under the direction of Prof. Jorge Sarmiento and Dr. Stephen Griffies, and will be able to collaborate with a wide range of researchers at Princeton University and NOAA/GFDL, as well as external collaborators at the member institutions of the Southern Ocean Carbon and Climate Observations and Modeling (SOCCOM) project sponsored by NSF Polar Programs.  

 

Candidates must have received a Ph.D. in physical oceanography, applied mathematics, or theoretical physical sciences within three years of the appointment start date. Training in theoretical physical oceanography, ocean circulation, ocean biogeochemistry, and/or climate change are very useful, along with strong modeling, quantitative, and statistical skills. An ability and interest to work across disciplines is highly desirable.

V.Carbon Emissions and Fluxes Research Scientist

Department Description:

The Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology, located in Pasadena, California invites applications for a full-time scientist to join the Carbon Cycle and Ecosystems group to conduct research on the global carbon cycle utilizing regional and global scale terrestrial carbon and atmosphere models with ground, aircraft, and satellite data to quantify regional and global scale carbon fluxes.

VI. Assistant/Associate Professor of Practice

VIII. Postdoctoral or post Masters Fellow in Coastal Community Resilience

Department Description:

The Wisconsin Sea Grant College Program and the Wisconsin Coastal Management Program seek postdoctoral and post Masters candidates interested in tackling science and policy challenges related to increasing coastal community resilience across the Great Lakes region. Together, these programs will fund this first ever state Science-Policy Fellow position, named in honor of a longtime Sea Grant coastal engineering expert Phil Keillor, to celebrate his legacy in building resilience in Wisconsin communities. 

 

This Fellow position will provide a unique educational and career opportunity for a recent graduate who is interested both in aquatic resources and in the policy decisions affecting those resources in Wisconsin. XII. International Master of Research course in Exploration Geophysics

Description:

The IPGP, one of leading Earth Science Institutes in the world, and the Mines Paristech, one of the top French Engineering Schools, have decided to jointly start an International Master of Research in Exploration Geophysics at advanced level.

 

The new Master’s course is for one year, from September to June, and is set up at the second year of the European Master level. It will consist of the courses taught in the Fall Term, between September and December, and six months of research, January-June. Courses will be in several disciplines of exploration geophysics, such as advanced seismic and EM methods. Each course will consist of strong theoretical training with examples drawn from industry-related problems. The students will receive on-hand training in field experiments and data analysis. Creative thinking and complex problem solving will be the main focus of the teaching. The research project will be carried out at IPGP and partner institutions as well as in industry. Each student will receive a fellowship.

XIII. Assistant in Research

Department Description:

The department of Earth Ocean and Atmospheric Science at Florida State University is seeking an Assistant in Research to manage, operate, monitor use of, maintain, and trouble-shoot a diverse array of analytical instrumentation. Equipment includes, but is not limited to, stable isotope mass spectrometers for measurement of C, N, O and S isotopic composition located in multiple laboratories at two locations. Primary responsibility will include isotope ratio mass spectrometry and membrane inlet systems. The manager will work with students, faculty, staff, and outside users to devise analytical protocol and train users on instrumentation use.

 

The qualifications are a Bachelor of Science in one of the physical sciences and a minimum of five years experience operating, maintaining and trouble-shooting advanced analytical instrumentation. Excellent analytical skills, experience with mass spectrometry with a broad understanding of basic electronic instrumentation and excellent communication skills, both verbal and written are essential.
