The Department of Earth and Space Sciences at the Southern University of Science and Technology of China (SUSTech) invites applications for tenure-track (or tenured) faculty positions at the ranks of Assistant, Associate, and Full Professors.  Applicants must have earned doctoral degrees in Geophysics, Geodesy, Space Physics, Planetary Sciences or closely related fields. 2. International Master of Research course in Solid Earth Sciences

IPGP, one of leading Earth Science Institutes in the world has decided to start an International Master of Research in Solid Earth Sciences at advanced level.

The new Master’s course is for one year, from September to June, and is set up at the second year of the European Master level. It will consist of the courses taught in the Fall Term, between September and December, and six months of research, January-June. Courses will be in several disciplines of solid earth geophysics, explorations geophysics, geochemistry and related fields. The curriculum  includes strong theoretical training combined with the development of computing and analytical skills. Creative thinking and complex problem solving will be the main focus of the teaching. The research project will be carried out at IPGP as well as in industry partners. Each student will receive a fellowship. The objective of this Master course is to train top-level earth scientists, who will go-on to carry out research either in academia (Ph.D.) or in industry. Several Ph.D. Fellowships will be available for the graduating students. The courses will be taught by internationally renowned scientists who are actively engaged in research from IPGP, Shell, CGGVeritas and Schlumberger.

3. Research Associate (Post-Doc)

The Ocean Physics Department (OPD) in Applied Physics Laboratory at the University of Washington (APL-UW) is seeking Post-doctoral Research Associates with research interests in upper ocean mixing processes and turbulence. This is a full-time (100% FTE) appointment, with an expected term of up to 36 months subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funding.

The Research Associate will work with an observational and modeling team to conduct and analyze a detailed observational study of mixing processes at the base of the upper ocean boundary layer during Fall 2018.  Skills in oceanographic data analysis, ocean dynamics and mixing processes are desirable.  Successful applicants must hold a recent (no more than 4-years) PhD or foreign equivalent in order to assume a post-doctoral position.

A transition to permanent staff following the completion of the post-doc appointment is possible subject to availability of funds and the demonstration of an interest in developing independent research initiatives during the course of the post-doc appointment. Opportunities to collaborate with scientists across APL and the UW campus provide access to a broad range of expertise both during the post-doctoral research and as a permanent member of the staff.

5. Canada Research Chair – Tier 2 Coastal Zone Processes

The Department of Earth Sciences at Dalhousie University is seeking a world-class coastal marine earth scientist to fill a new Tier 2 Canada Research Chair. Dalhousie is Canada’s leading centre for ocean research and this position is key to the strategic development of this research field as embodied in the new Ocean Frontier Institute founded on a $220M investment by the government of Canada, and private and provincial entities (http://oceanfrontierinstitute.com). The appointment is tenure-track and will be made at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in the Department of Earth Sciences. The successful candidate will be required to participate in the preparation of a Canada Research Chair nomination package. When the term as Chair is completed, the Chair would continue at Dalhousie as a regular faculty member.

We seek a candidate with a record of research excellence and demonstrated potential for developing a world-class, externally funded research program in coastal zone processes. Applicants must have a Ph.D.  The successful candidate will be a successful early career scientist in Earth Sciences or a related discipline, and will have demonstrated ability or potential to lead multidisciplinary teams. Tier 2 Chairs are intended for exceptional emerging scholars (i.e. candidate must have been an active researcher in their field for fewer than 10 years at the time of nomination). Applicants who are more than 10 years from their highest degree (and where career breaks exist, including maternity leave, extended sick leave, clinical training, etc.) may have their eligibility for a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair assessed through the program’s Tier 2 justification process. 6. Program Specialist III - Climate Monitoring

Job Overview

This position provides the necessary focal point between the NOAA Ocean and Climate Monitoring program of the Ocean Observing and Monitoring Division (OOMD) and the federal and extramural, scientific community.  The ocean and climate monitoring component focuses on the development and improvement of ocean- and climate- related data sets, the transformation of ocean- and climate- -related observations into authoritative products, and the interpretation of these products to better understand the current and changing state of the, ocean, and Arctic and climate systems.

Responsibilities

Observations are a foundational element of the oceans and climate research and services enterprise. The scientific community invests significantly in the development of global observing systems to address the needs of the research, forecasting, and assessment communities,  to enable stakeholders and decision-makers to monitor and respond to changes in the Earth system. While observing systems routinely provide data and related metadata, raw data alone are often insufficient to realize the full value of these observations. Value-added products, diagnostics, and indices based on these observations should have a strong scientific foundation, be publicly accessible, and enhance the use of the data to address specific needs.

7. Postdoctoral Fellow in Mineral Physics

The mineral physics group in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at Harvard University invites applications from prospective postdoctoral researchers. Successful applicants will study Earth’s mantle and core using high-pressure, high-temperature experimental techniques, and should hold a Ph.D. in Earth and Planetary Sciences or a related field by the start date. The position is for one year, renewable to at least two contingent on research progress. Experience with diamond anvil cells, laser heating, and/or synchrotron techniques is preferred.
