1. Professor - Remote Sensing

The University of Alabama, Department of Geography invites applications for a position in the area of Remote Sensing, starting August 16, 2017 at the rank of Professor with tenure. This new position will support the expansion of our Department and the initiation of our new Ph.D. program, tentatively scheduled to begin fall 2017. Successful candidates will demonstrate sustained accomplishments including a research program that is widely recognized and externally funded as well as a proven track record of graduate and undergraduate mentoring. It is expected that the candidate hired would significantly enhance the University of Alabama’s visibility and impact in remote sensing research and scholarship. Preference will be given to candidates whose research complements the University’s designation as a National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency Center of Academic Excellence in Geospatial Sciences and one or more of the department’s broader research foci including: water resources, human-environment systems, environmental management and change, and human impacts on the environment (see http://geography.ua.edu/). 2. Nuclear Explosion Monitoring Postdoctoral Scholar

The College of Information Sciences and Technology and The Applied Research Laboratory at The Pennsylvania State University are currently seeking US citizen candidates for a postdoctoral scholarship position. The job location is in the greater Washington, DC metropolitan area. The Scholars Program was designed to utilize mission-critical expertise possessed by highly qualified subject matter experts in DTRA’s mission to combat and respond to weapons of mass destruction (WMD) proliferation and use.

Candidates should have a Ph.D. or equivalent in physical science or engineering, such as applied physics, geology, geophysics or other geosciences, physics, or a related field. Skills and knowledge required include properties of geological media, and an understanding of scientific analysis methods in detecting and characterizing earthquakes and other seismic phenomena. Ability to study seismic wave types, intensities, and the effects of topography and depth of event across seismic signatures is representative of skill sets that are useful or must be learned, Training or experience in seismic sensors and networks is beneficial, including modeling. Ability to understand methods in acoustic or hydroacoustic techniques is desirable. Experimental or theoretical specialties are welcome, but candidates need to be willing and flexible at learning and reviewing concepts beyond their specialty.

8. Director of the CSUB California Energy Research Center

Description: Full-time Director of the recently established CSUB Energy Research Center (csub.edu/energycenter). The CSUB Energy Research Center was established in 2013 with the goals of supporting and promoting interdisciplinary faculty energy-related research. The new director will have the opportunity to work with a diverse pool of active faculty from six different departments and the administration to grow and shape the Center and its activities. The successful applicant will procure resources from governmental, industry, and community sources for faculty and student research in energy resources, technology, and management. Outreach and team leadership in developing collaborations in proposal writing will be an essential part of the job as will travel to meet with funding sources and collaborative personnel from other centers. Other duties will include those consistent with center directorships including managing staff and chairing the advisory board. Applicants will be appointed with retreat rights to the most appropriately affiliated academic program pending approval of the department.

Qualifications: A PhD in a field associated with energy research such as but not limited to engineering, geoscience, or physics, and consistent with a department at CSUB. A record of funded research grants and scholarship is essential, along with the ability to lead and manage a team of collaborators. Experience with local energy-related industries, and outreach to potential partners (i.e., petroleum, wind, solar, electrical, geothermal, biofuels, agriculture, water resources) preferred. Experience with managing staff and assistants is desired. The successful candidate will also be expected to teach up to two classes per year, which may be upper division or graduate level in area of specialty.
