1.Assistant Professor of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences (Hycrogeology/Groundwater Modeling)

Applications are invited for a tenure track position as Assistant Professor in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The position forms part of a cluster hire (Climate Change: Impacts, Adaptation, and Mitigation) that involves multiple departments in the College of Arts and Sciences. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in teaching and curricular development of undergraduate and graduate courses, to advise and direct graduate students, and to develop a rigorous research program that is supported by external funding. It is expected that the research program will focus on relationships between the hydrosphere and climate. The ability to contribute to multidisciplinary water and climate research efforts in the department and college will be considered as an advantage. 2.Assistant Professor, Physics

3.Postdoctoral Fellowships in the Earth and Environmental Sciences

Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University invites applications for Postdoctoral Fellowships in the fields of Earth and environmental sciences. Candidates should have recently completed their Ph.D. or should expect to complete their degree requirements by September 2019.

Researchers at the Observatory work to understand the dynamics of the Earth’s chemical, physical, and biological systems, from the core to the upper atmosphere, including Earth’s interactions with human society. Our scientists lead research in the fields of solid Earth dynamics; ocean, atmospheric, and climate systems; cryospheric dynamics; paleoclimate; and biogeoscience. There is also an opportunity for a fellowship in forest ecology with a fieldwork component at the Black Rock Forest Consortium, a research facility near the Lamont Campus.

The principal selection criteria for Fellows are scientific excellence and a clearly expressed plan to investigate problems at the forefront of Earth science. Applications from all related fields are welcomed.

Fellowships are supported institutionally for 24 months, include a $7,500 research allowance, and carry an annual salary of $66,000. Successful candidates will be encouraged to apply for external funding and may be eligible for further internal awards and positions. Lamont is especially interested in qualified candidates whose record of achievement will contribute to the diversity of the Observatory’s scientific personnel.

5. Voss Postdoctoral Research Associate

6. Post-doctoral Researcher at IU Earth and Atmospheric Sciences

The Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Indiana University invites applicants for a post‐doctoral research position in the lab of Professor Douglas Edmonds. The successful candidate will be involved in a large, multidisciplinary National Science Foundation Coastal Science, Engineering, and Education for Sustainability project on the sustainability of deltaic coastlines, with particular reference to the Mississippi River Delta. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a basin‐scale morphodynamic model using Delft3D based on the Mississippi Delta. The goal is to understand how deltaic land building evolves under different conditions of sediment supply by rivers, subsidence, vegetation growth, and ocean conditions. A Ph.D. by time of appointment in geology (or earth science equivalent), geography, oceanography, or engineering is required. Experience or training in one or more of the following is strongly preferred: numerical modeling (especially morphodynamic modeling), coastal geomorphology, or familiarity with the dynamics of the Mississippi Delta.

The position is for one year, with the opportunity of renewal depending on progress and funding availability. 9. PhD/MS Assistantship in Civil and Environmental Engineering - Urban Stormwater

Dr. Walter McDonald and Dr. Anthony Parolari in the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering at Marquette University are seeking a PhD or M.S. student for a newly funded research project through the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District to start January 2019. 10. NSF-funded graduate student positions in climatology

We have Graduate Research Assistantships available for students interested in developing research related to our NSF-funded project, “High Frequency Hydroclimate Extremes and Synoptic Climate Drivers in Western North America at the End of the Little Ice Age.”

One of these positions will be with Dr. Erika Wise in the Climate & Tree-Ring Environmental Science lab in the Department of Geography at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. This student will focus on tree-ring science and data-model integration toanswer questions concerning pre-instrumental synoptic climatology and hydroclimate extremes. UNC-CH offers opportunities for field & lab research and for classes and collaborations with Duke and NC State universities.

The other position will be in the Department of Geography at the University of South Carolina-Columbia with Dr. Cary Mock, focusing on historical geography, synoptic climatology, and extreme climate and weather events. This position will include opportunities to conduct international archival research.

Successful applicants will have the opportunity to be trained in multiple approaches to climatology at both universities through funded summer research exchanges. Students will also take part in science communication training through the Morehead Planetarium & Science Center and be able to participate in science education and outreach in the Carolinas. Both positions will provide academic-year and summer salary, conference travel funding, publication costs, and tuition & fees.
