On November 5-6, 2014, 2014 Binhai International Industrial Development and Innovation Forumwas held in Tianjin Beihai New Area. The theme of the forum was "World's Marine Engineering Industry Development and China's Opportunities". Peking University Institute of Ocean Research was one of the organizers of this forum.

On November 5, Professor Shen Tiyan chaired the forum. First, Zhang Dongxiao, Executive Vice Dean of Peking University Institute of Ocean Research, made a welcome speech at the opening ceremony. He introduced the work progress and development planning of Peking University Institute of Ocean Research. Jin Donghu, Vice Governor of the Tianjin Binhai New Area, introduced the efforts made by Binhai for developing the ocean engineering industry.

Guo Jinting, the president of the International Association of Ocean Engineers, expanded the discussion on the topic of the development of the global deep-water oil and gas. Li Shumin, vice chief engineer of the Offshore Oil Engineering Company elaborated on the deep-water oil and gas project issues from the technical level. Chen Weimin, the marketing director of China Marine Shipbuilding Industry Group, spoke on the global market conditions of ocean engineering industry.

The forum was of great significance in constructing the international platform of ocean engineering industry. It promoted the innovation and development of the ocean engineering industry in Tianjin Binhai New Area, increased the international brand influence of the area, and created international cooperation opportunities.
