This report will look back at the progress of the research on the ENSO over the past decades and probe into the challenges of the future we would face with, including several chapters as follows:

1. The disasters caused by the ENSO

2. The formation, evolution and prediction of the ENSO

3. The ocean knowledge about the ENSO

4. Will the year of 2015 usher the strongest ENSO
