【Cui Weicheng】Development and Influence of Manned Submersible in China

2014-12-15 18:30:29

On December 15, 2014, Professor Cui Weicheng, head of the abyssal technology research center and Shanghai Ocean University visited Peking University. He introduced the development and current influence of the manned submersible in China. The host is professor Zhang Dongxiao, dean of the College of Engineering and the Peking University Institute of Ocean Research.

Professor Cui Weicheng

Professor Cui Weicheng outlined the achievements and improvements of the "Jiaolong" project, and made vivid explanation of the development strategy of the manned abyssal apparatus in China and the key technical problems that need to be solved in the development of manned abyssal apparatus. Professor Cui, as the first deputy chief designer of the submersible Jiaolong, not only shoulders the design and development work of the "Jiaolong" project, but also he is the first batch of submersible divers in every deep-sea trial every time. Therefore, he is recognized as a deep diving "hero" by teachers and students.

At the early stage of the "Jiaolong", the deepest submersible in China has been developed only 600 meters. From 600 to 7000 meters, it is thought to be an insurmountable leap in technology. Facing the difficulties of technical gap and shortage of personnel, he did not withdraw but bravely picked up the burden of the development of the deep-water submersible in our country. He immerced himself in the designing work with his colleagues, at the same time, he actively carried out personnel training work. At last, a scientific research team was established. However, after the submersible Jiaolong successfully reached the depth of 7000 meters, professor Cui left the work place and then established a "deep dive" elite team with the help of the local government and university. He decided to challenge the research and development of the deep-sea landing devices that are capable of diving 11,000 meters.
