1. 2017 NASA Planetary Science Summer Seminar Applications Open
NASA is accepting applications from science and engineering post-docs, recent PhDs, and doctoral students for its 29th Annual Planetary Science Summer Seminar, which will be held in one single session in summer 2017 (July 24 - 28 only) at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif.
During the program and pre-session webinars, student teams will carry out the equivalent of an early mission concept study, prepare a proposal authorization review presentation, present it to a review board, and receive feedback. By the end of the session, students will have a clearer understanding of the life cycle of a space mission; relationships between mission design, cost, and schedule; and the tradeoffs necessary to stay within cost and schedule while preserving the quality of science.

2. Graduate Student Opportunities in Oceanography at University of Victoria
I am seeking motivated MSc and PhD students to join my chemical oceanography group at the School of Earth and Ocean Sciences, University of Victoria (Victoria, BC, Canada). We use high precision measurements of dissolved gases to study the ocean carbon cycle.
Possible scientific research directions include:
- quantifying net biological productivity over an annual cycle using oxygen sensors on profiling Argo floats in the NE Pacific, including comparison to our lab’s discrete estimates from discrete oxygen/argon ratios
- elucidating the nitrogen cycle in the Arctic from measurements of dissolved nitrogen/argon ratios to detect denitrification rates
- using noble gas measurements to understand the impact of water mass formation on deep ocean carbon and to refine parameterizations of air-sea gas exchange

4. Paid Summer Research Internship Opportunity – SOARS Program
SOARS is an undergraduate to graduate research internship program for students interested in the atmospheric and related sciences, based at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (Boulder, Colorado).
Students from many disciplines, including atmospheric sciences, meteorology, geography, chemistry, physics, engineering, mathematics, geosciences, computing, and the social sciences are invited to apply their expertise to understanding the Earth’s Atmosphere and to use that understanding to improve life on Earth. In particular, SOARS encourages applications from individuals who are members of a group that is historically under-represented in the atmospheric and related sciences, including students who are Black or African American, American Indian or Alaska Native, and Hispanic or Latino, female, first generation college students, veterans and students with disabilities.

7. Intern: NASA Student Airborne Research Program (SARP)
The NASA Airborne Science Program invites highly motivated advanced undergraduates who will be rising seniors in summer 2017 to apply for participation in the 9th annual NASA Student Airborne Research Program (SARP 2017). The purpose of the Student Airborne Research Program is to provide students with hands-on research experience in all aspects of a major scientific campaign, from detailed planning on how to achieve mission objectives to formal presentation of results and conclusions to peers and others.
Students will work in multi-disciplinary teams to study surface, atmospheric, and oceanographic processes. Participants will fly onboard the NASA C-23 Sherpa and assist in the operation of instruments to sample and measure atmospheric gases. They will also use data collected during the program from the NASA ER-2 image land and water surfaces in multiple spectral bands. Along with airborne data collection, students will participate in taking measurements at field sites. Each student will complete an individual research project from the data collected.
