2. Post Doc - Regional and Global Climate Modeling

Brookhaven National Laboratory is a multipurpose research institution funded primarily by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science. Located on the center of Long Island, New York, Brookhaven Lab brings world-class facilities and expertise to the most exciting and important questions in basic and applied science—from the birth of our universe to the sustainable energy technology of tomorrow.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist in the continuing development of an integrated WRF-CAM framework;

• Analysis of climate model response in high-dimensional parameter space;

• Extreme value modeling using R statistics;

• High-resolution cloud process modeling to aid in climate model validation.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ph.D. in atmospheric science or closely related fields (if not already graduated, then must be expected by May 2017).

• Background in climate model development, cloud and climate modeling.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Experience with atmospheric modeling at LES, cloud-resolving and global scales.

• Familiarity working with Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model and Community Atmosphere Model (CAM).

• Knowledge of cloud and convective parameterizations used in atmospheric models.

• Experience with uncertainty quantification in high dimensional parameter space.

• Strong programming background, such as familiarity with data analysis software (e.g., Python, perl, ncl, IDL, R, etc.), FORTRAN, C++ and handling of large datasets.

• Effective written and oral communication skills.

4.Postdoctoral Fellow

The Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere (CIRA) at Colorado State University seeks to fill 1 postdoctoral fellowship for its collaborative research as a Cooperative Institute with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS) in College Park, Maryland (office will be in College Park).

Essential Job Duties:

SST Product Improvement 75%

Process global SST data, in near-real time;

Develop and test new cloud screening and SST algorithms;

Radiative transfer modeling using Community Radiative Transfer Model (CRTM);

Optimize cloud screening, constraining cloud mask and SST algorithms based on NWP upper air fields;

Use global NCEP and ECMWF data analysis and forecast, and their use in conjunction with CRTM;

Improve sensor calibration techniques and quality control of satellite radiances.

Dissemination of Research Results 25%

Publish research results in peer-reviewed literature, presentation at national/international conferences.

Required Qualifications:

PhD in a quantitative field of research (Physics/Math/Stat/Remote Sensing/Meteorology) completed by date of hire;

Solid quantitative educational background in fundamental Physics, Mathematics and Statistics;

Proven list of deliverables (peer-reviewed publications, derived products, etc.);

Willingness and ability to conduct independent research (from problem definition to technical solution to documentation in peer-reviewed literature and science conferences) while being a team player.

Preferred Qualifications:

Expertise in cloud screening and calibration of satellite sensor data, mathematical inversions;

Expertise in SST and Aerosol retrieval algorithms from space;

Expertise in radiative transfer modeling (RTM) in the thermal IR and Visible using RTM;

Expertise in radiation properties of aerosols and their effect on SST;

proficiency with global data handling and quality control procedures;

proficiency with IDL, Fortran, and Unix/Unix scripts programming.

8. Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) of Structural Geology and Tectonics
