Successful candidates will work with the Multiscale data Assimilation and Predictability (MAP) Laboratory, one of the leading, vibrant and productive labs conducting active research and development in data assimilation and ensemble prediction for various scales and atmospheric phenomena. Successful candidates will conduct research to advance the assimilation of radar, satellite and other convective and meso-scale observations using advanced ensemble-variational hybrid data assimilation method developed based on the US National Weather Service operational data assimilation system GSI.

2. Post-doctoral position in Computational Biology and Modeling
A postdoctoral position is available in the Data Exploration Lab at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) in association with the department of Plant Biology, in the School of Integrative Biology, at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Matthew Turk and Dr. Amy Marshall-Colon are looking for a highly motivated postdoc to work on a project funded by the Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research (FFAR) aimed at generating virtual crops. This project includes development of a computational framework with a web-based user interface for integrating existing biological models and visualizing the output of the combined model network. The project postdoc will work closely with faculty and staff at NCSA as well as Dr. Marshall-Colon’s team in the department of Plant Biology, and collaborators in the labs of Dr. Stephen Long, UIUC, Dr. Jonathan Lynch, Penn State.
The duties of the project postdoc will focus on model integration and development of the computational framework for combining biological models including the model integration package, web-based user interface, and model visualization.

MAJOR DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Quantify atomic structure and reactivity of minerals, amorphous phases, porous geomaterials, and liquids under cold, ambient and elevated temperatures and pressures using X-ray and neutron scattering

5. Geology Lecturer and Laboratory Director
Description: The Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville seeks to hire a Geology Lecturer and Laboratory Director to start August 1, 2018. The initial appointment is a 12-month full-time non-tenure track academic faculty position with a competitive salary and full benefits. Although the initial appointment is for one year, the contract is renewable contingent on performance. A primary duty of the position is to teach introductory geology courses in either physical, historical, environmental, or planetary geology.
