On August 24, 2014, Peking University Party Committee Secretary Zhu Shanlu visited Ocean University of China. The purpose of this visit was to seek cooperation on marine education and scientific research between two universities. Zhang Dongxiao, Executive Vice Dean of Peking University Institute of Ocean Research, Sun Yegang, Party Committee Secretary of Ocean University of China, Yu Zhigang, President of Ocean University of China, and Yan Ju, Vice President of Ocean University of China were presented.

Secretary Zhu pointed out that Peking University was intended to make a breakthrough in the area of ocean research. Now that the state proposed the goal of constructing the Oceanic Great Power, Peking University was expected to play a significant role in ocean research field. He suggested that a win-win ally should be built so that the two universities could be complementary to each other.

Secretary Sun made a brief introduction to the university's background, history, scale, etc. He believed that Ocean University of China should take the responsibility in constructing the Oceanic Great Power. He expressed sincere wishes of cooperating with other universities or institutes.

In the end, the visiting group of Peking University visited the Key Laboratory of Physical Oceanography of Ocean University of China.
