We are seeking a motivated student to pursue a Ph.D. at University of Missouri. 2.CIRES/ GSD Research Associate: Numerical Weather Prediction Scientist

The Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) in Boulder, Colorado is seeking a research scientist with programming experience to work in the NOAA Earth System Research Laboratory (ESRL)/Global Systems Division (GSD). The scientist will help enhance transition of innovations in Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) to NOAA’s operational production suite by supporting community scientists in using and developing global and regional configurations of NOAA’s Unified Forecast System, which uses the Finite Volume Cubed Sphere (FV3) dynamical core. The scientist will also work on NWP development projects of ESRL/GSD. The work will be conducted in collaboration with other scientists in ESRL/GSD, and involve collaborations with the Developmental Testbed Center, Global Model Test Bed and other groups at NOAA Laboratories, NCAR, NCEP and the scientific community. The position is located in Boulder, Colorado. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

4.9-Month FT Instructor Position, Mineralogy & Igneous/Metamorphic Petrology, Univ Alaska Anchorage

The Department of Geological Sciences at the University of Alaska Anchorage (www.uaa.alaska.edu/ geology/) seeks applicants for a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure track position in the field of mineralogy and igneous/metamorphic petrology for the 2018-2019 academic year, with a start date in August 2018. The successful applicant will be required to teach up to 12 contact credits of courses per semester (lecture-based courses are 3 credits and labs are 1.5 credits). These include upper level courses in Mineralogy, Igneous & Metamorphic Petrology, and Geologic Field Methods, as well as other introductory or upper level courses or labs within the applicant’s expertise. We anticipate this position will be advertised as a tenure-track opportunity in Fall 2019; should this occur, the successful applicant may also apply for this permanent position if it becomes available.

The position requires a Ph.D. in geological sciences or a related field at the time of initial appointment and university teaching experience. The salary range for this position is $51,000 - $60,000, depending on experience. The position includes a standard benefits package. 6.Assistant/Associate Extension Professor in Climate Science

Appointment and Position Description:

This is a nine-month tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor with duties divided between Extension (60%) and Research (40%). The position is in the Department of Soil, Water, and Climate on the flagship Twin Cities campus of the U of M. Applications are encouraged from candidates with expertise in any relevant area of climate science, such as meteorology, climatology, atmospheric chemistry, hydroclimatology, hydrometeorology, etc.

The appointee will be expected to develop an extension program to communicate critical climate and meteorological information useful for decision making in agricultural production, forestry, and management of natural resources with a focus on climate adaptation, and to develop a locally, nationally, and internationally recognized research program related to climate science.

As part of this position, the appointee will work with the Minnesota State Climatology Office (co-located within the department), as well as with the National Weather Service to promote climate science literacy among diverse audiences across the state of Minnesota. The appointee is also expected to collaborate with climate, agricultural and silvicultural scientists as appropriate to identify potential strategies for adaptation to changing climate conditions. Participation in various Extension and state programs such as initiatives associated with the Cropping Systems working group, the Extension Disaster Education Network (EDEN) and the Minnesota Climate Adaptation Partnership (MCAP) is expected. Extension’s mission is to provide effective, research-based education that integrates diverse perspectives to address critical issues impacting Minnesota’s agriculture and natural resources.

The appointee is expected to collaborate in research with U of M faculty and develop research networks outside the U of M. In addition, the appointee will be expected to secure extramural research funding from state and national competitive grant programs; recruit and advise graduate students; participate in faculty governance; participate in, and as appropriate, provide leadership to the outreach activities of the Department and College statewide and nationally.
